Losing ships on the other hand would make ships more valuable and hence make the tactical combat more important. And it basically makes losing ships less of a big of a deal, just a small setback that some energy can fix on the next turn. Heaven forbid that the player might suffer a big loss because they won't think the game is fun. Sid's argument that 'players will get too upset and rage quit if they lose a ship' points to that. Sid Meier’s Starships takes place about 1000 years after the events of Civ:BE. Second, I think it is a classic case of pandering the game to the casual noob gamer. The idea that I can pulverize a ship in space and it is still just disabled and I can tow it back to base and repair with some energy, is silly. If my cannons blow up your ship, I'm pretty sure it's gone for good. I don't get the decision not to have permanent death of ships. Players will have to buy Starships to find out what it is. and beyond Sid Meier’s Starships goes beyond Beyond Earth 'Turn-based tactical combat' shares 'cross-connectivity' with latest Civilization. cross-connectivity with BE is a secret that Firaxis does not want to spoil.

Plus if a player lost a fleet, they would just switch to another fleet so there would less emotional investment in each fleet. Sid felt that multiple fleets would cause clutter (AI would have multiple fleets too). There is a wonder that gives you stronger shields all the way around your ship (rear of ship is no longer weak spot) Some missions will require only one ship (like in Ace Patrol where you have to pick only one pilot to fly a mission) Ships gets powerful promotions when they disable an enemy ship. Sid felt that losing ships completely would cause players to rage quit which he wanted to avoided.

When it loses all its hit points, it is only disabled and must be repaired at full cost after the battle. a player's ship is never completely destroyed in combat. Sid basically lost the combat in this live stream's battle. Then use the Play in Starships button (make sure to be logged into the 2k thing) then when you load up starships there should be a load from beyond earth button at the bottom under new game.
